Relationship
Taking delight in students and HELPING them succeed.
The most valuable commodity we offer parents and students is a meaningful relationship between our Mentors and their students. Before Mentors are hired, they must demonstrate their ability to encourage, motivate, and enjoy their students. They are trained to cultivate an atmosphere of authenticity, good will, fun, and trust in their student’s desire and ability to learn. Because the mentoring relationship endures through high school, Mentors have the privilege not just of seeing a student’s writing or speaking improve; we have discussed character qualities, encouraged hope and persistence, even confidentially advised them on boy-girl relationships. Mentors are usually parents themselves and understand that sometimes others can forge an academic breakthrough where parents struggle. As one BrainBuilder parent has said, “you have become a compassionate friend and second mom to our son.”
